Hi,
If any John Carpenter experts are lurking here, please help me out with
this question ! When I first saw "Assault on P13", it was a midnight
show in a small London (UK) "art house" type cinema sometime in late
1976 or early 1977. I clearly remember a song over the End credits which
had the repeating lyric "You Can't beat the System" timed to the beat to
the classic Main theme.
Of course, I've seen a multitude of prints since, from cinema to video
to the new DVD, and checked Websites, but no trace this song ever seems
to exist.
And yet, in issue 100 of the essential magazine "Video Watchdog" (on
sale now), there is a review of the new DVD by Kim Newman (from the UK),
where he bemoans the lack of this song, that he too heard on the first
UK release.
Now, I was beginning to think I'd imagined it, or it was something the
projectionist played over the P.A. instead of the credits we've heard
since. But now I know someone else heard it, so it must be true !!!
It certainly had disappeared by the time the film came to my home town
in Wales, some 8 months later, and I've never heard it on an American,
or any other print since. So essentially, can anyone post here and tell
me if they heard the song, what happened to it, and if it's available
anywhere, on any release or recording (I assume John Carpenter wrote it
himself, as it was essentially the Main theme, but with lyrics).
Many thanks.
